Why You Should Listen to New Music Every Day

No matter your individualistic circumstance or position in life, you more than likely have a profound love for music, at least to a certain degree. Considering you’re on a website priding itself on everything music, your love is more detailed than the average Joe, no pun intended.
Although we all have some sort of passion for music as humans, a lot of us stick to our typical genres and favorite artists during our daily intake of music. There certainly isn’t anything wrong with this, but striving to listen to a new piece of music every single day can be gratifying.
Even if you only enjoy a few different genres, countless artists are waiting to be discovered. From my perspective, it works best if you have a wide variety of genres to dive into. Still, it’s completely subjective and up to you.
For the most part, your objective should be to listen to a new piece of music before each day passes. Even if it’s from an artist you’ve heard of, as long as your ears haven’t heard it before, you’re golden. Let’s discuss exactly why you should listen to new music every day.
Expanding Horizons

Without even going into detail, the main benefit of listening to music every day is discovering new music itself. Everyone enjoys the moment when they discover a new artist they love. Even if it doesn’t happen daily, when it does, it makes the entire process of listening to new music more beneficial.
Everyone should strive to expand their musical intake, and you’ll be glad you do. In the end, if you’d rather stick to the few artists you usually listen to, that’s completely fine. However, be mindful of how great it is to expand your musical intake on a level with discovering new artists.
Benefits Mental Health

There are clear benefits tied to music and a person’s mental health. Music can help us deal with the burdensome nature of dejected emotions. Getting into the habit of planning out new music sessions can give you a sense of excitability for what you plan on listening to.
It’s always a good idea to designate a bit of time to a beneficial occurrence like this. How long and when you go about it is entirely up to you, but realize how important it is to dedicate a routine for new music. It’ll be something you’ll always look forward to, at least that’s how it is for me.
Music Knowledge

Outside of just discovering new music and helping your own mental health, you’ll start to encompass an ever-growing mental note of music. Basically, you’ll start to develop a sense of being a music buff. This certainly sounds like a bit of narcissism, but it’s quite the opposite.
Obviously, never shame or look down on others who don’t seek out this method. No one should ever be a music snob, so don’t become one. On the other hand, listening to new music will grow your knowledge of the history and dynamic across the musical spectrum. An impressive feat not many people can say they do. Plus, there will always be new music waiting to be discovered.
Helps Musicianship

If you’re a musician, listening to different genres and music can do wonders for your own musicianship. Although artists like Neil Young try to avoid listening to new music at all costs as a way to avoid plagiarism, I feel the opposite of this. Getting inspired and influenced is the best thing that can happen to someone, especially musicians.
I can go back to my early days of listening to music and how it has shaped as an individual today. Not to shame the Neil Young method, but the more music you listen to, the more it’ll help your musicianship. Yes, practice makes perfect, but so does the analysis and digestion of fellow creators.
Conclusion

No matter what the case might be, seeking out new music is something I feel deeply passionate about. Indeed, do whatever you want to do music-wise, but consider trying out this method.
