The Legacy of MF DOOM
The world lost a pioneer in music history as Daniel Dumile, also known as MF DOOM, tragically lost his life on October 31st after it was announced on Instagram from his wife Jasmine a few days ago. He was 49-years-old. It’s always a shame when someone leaves this planet too early, especially when it’s such an iconic figure like MF DOOM.
MF DOOM was an innovative British-American rapper who had a level of wordplay and production like no other, leading to over six solo albums and six collaborative albums throughout his career. His death brought on numerous tributes from artists such as Danny Brown, Denzel Curry, DJ Premier, Flying Lotus, Ghostface Killah, JPEGMafia, Noname, Q-Tip, Questlove, Tyler, the Creator, Thom Yorke, and countless others. Below is a statement from Dumile’s wife Jasmine:
The greatest husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover and friend I could ever ask for. Thank you for all the things you have shown, taught and given to me, our children and our family. Thank you for teaching me how to forgive beings and give another chance, not to be so quick to judge and write off. Thank you for showing how not to be afraid to love and be the best person I could ever be. My world will never be the same without you. Words will never express what you and Malachi mean to me, I love both and adore you always. May THE ALL continue to bless you, our family and the planet.
All my Love,
Jasmine
There will never be another artist like MF DOOM who brought the popularity of underground and alternative hip-hop to another dimension since his beginnings in the late 1990s. Above is a video from Deep Cuts that features an in-depth look at the legacy of MF DOOM and why he was a true original to the genre of rap altogether. Lastly, remember, ALL CAPS when you spell the man name.
