I’ve been on a tear as of late with collecting vinyl. It’s gotten to a point where my daily life encompasses some form of vinyl shopping online. Though I’m not purchasing vinyl every day, I’m certainly viewing and making lists of records I wish I had; some new, some old.

The polyvinyl chloride analog sound storage medium in the form of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove gives me enough joy to do anything. Whether I’m bored, looking to get my mind off something, or want to support an artist I love, records are there for me to dive into.

Though this general expression is a level of corniness to some, I suppose I don’t mind. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not advertising my obsession over the matter on social media 24/7 (but Joe you’re writing a blog post for god sake!). I guess I differentiate this blog from social media.

I get a sense not many people read this, or at least people I know don’t read it. Either way, there’s no harm in writing why I love collecting records so much. The other side of the coin is from an investment standpoint. Though I don’t have this mentality, records are worth quite a bit of money so if I ever want to get out of the medium, it’ll be a nice payday.

Again, I don’t imagine I’ll ever do that, but it’s worth noting. I don’t collect records with the goal to re-sell or to be above others as a music listener, it’s just something I enjoy. It’s as simple as growing a personal collection to admire in privacy. What’s better than music? Okay, that was cheesy, I apologize.
