New Music Releases – August 17th to 23rd, 2020

Another week has gone by, which begs the question of what new music has been blessed upon us. As odd of a reality we find ourselves in, at least we have new tracks and records that are dropped upon us every week. Keep in mind, this list won’t feature every great new track or album, but it’ll highlight a few recent releases I found interesting. Like every other installment of new music releases, if you’re interested in listening to or purchasing any of the records or tracks listed below, click on the title of one for a direct link to Amazon.

Overalls and electric pianos are a fairly determined representation of who Joan is. The bedroom-pop and indie duo recently dropped a six-track EP a few weeks back that’s catchy, clever, and filled with 1980s electronic pop vibes.

The emo-rock outfit in Movements is back yet again with their second released single in a couple of weeks with Skin to Skin. The track isn’t anything new with the group, but I enjoyed the lyrical motifs and the lead line that goes throughout the track.

Similar to movements, iconic vocalist Matt Corby dropped another track titled Vitamin, which appears to be coming from an upcoming project. The track begins with an off-filtered synthesizer riff with catchy MIDI drums that join in with Corby’s voice. Simple track, but it’s splendid nonetheless.

Electronic musician and composer Dan Deacon recently dropped the score he did for the 2019 documentary Well Groomed. Always interesting to gander through projects that were made for documentaries and films.

Indie rock and folk duo Whitney came out with their third full-length record titled Candid. The record isn’t groundbreaking or anything new, but it’s a pleasant indie rock and folk album that’s easy on the ears.

Folk-rock icon Father John Misty recently dropped two tracks To S. and To R. which are sorrowful tunes about relationships and questioning what someone had to say. Both are great tracks and will take an emotional toll on anyone who listens.
