Music Recommendations #10

Music Recommendations is a series of blogs dedicated to recommending music I find enjoyable. These blogs will cover a wide range of music I’ve recently discovered or have enjoyed for a long time. My purpose in writing these blogs is to promote positivity and happiness pertaining to music, rather than be critical of music I don’t like. At least that’s what I hope to achieve. If you’re interested in buying or listening to any of the records, click the title of one for a direct link to Amazon.
For whatever reason, the tenth or hundredth of a specific order seems to be an appreciative manner. I could care less, but woohoo! We’ve reached our 10th Music Recommendations. Soon enough, we’ll have thousands of records and artists for all of you to dive into and either love or hate.
Lately, I found myself diving into 1970s progressive rock, noise rock, and modern bedroom dream pop. I’m not entirely sure what the correlation of the two is, but great tunes either way. Nonetheless, here are some records you all should check out.

Honestly, if you don’t enjoy Pink Floyd’s music or at least respect them as a band, I don’t care what your opinion is on anything. In all seriousness, Pink Floyd is one of the greatest bands of all time and had a string of fantastic records in the 70s that arguably no other group has yet to achieve.
Of their discography, Animals is my favorite record of theirs for the brutally honest lyrical compositions about societal class and role. Not to mention David Gilmour’s emotion-inducing guitar solos, song structure, and flow of the record.

Sonic Youth is one of the most influential bands for noise rock, shoegaze, and punk. Most of the group’s fans cite their 1988 record, Daydream Nation, to be their best work, and I have to agree. The incredible intro of Teenage Riot is one of my favorite opening tracks on any album. The band rocks and this record is a perfect representation of what they did differently in the punk and noise rock genres.

Similar to Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine was at the forefront of noise rock and shoegaze. Their 2nd record, Loveless, is their most famous work and rightfully so. The unique guitar tones, song structure, and vocal delivery of Bilinda Butcher are a sonic adventure in and of itself.

I believe this is the first live record I have on Music Recommendations, and what better musician to give it to than none other than Bill Withers. Bill Withers is one of the most remarkable artists from the 1970s for his incredibly catchy and straightforward tunes. Wither’s 1973 performance at Carnegie Hall is one of my favorite live albums of all time and is a must-listen for any music fan.
