Great Albums From the Year I Was Born (1997)

This is a bit of a reach and a personal niche, but it’s somewhat intriguing. As I age, I tend to look back at records from my life and see what they represent in my own personal music taste.
In an even more specific niche, I feel an odd need to list off great albums from 1997, my birth year. Yes, on the grand scheme of society, I’m still relatively young and have scarcely produced anything rememberable in any form.
The late 1990s brought an end to a lot of transcendent genres in the music industry, but became a standpoint for the further birthplace of newer genres. Anyway, here are some records from 1997 that I find to be worthwhile in the musical landscape.

Yes, my favorite band of all time released one of my favorite records of all time the year I was born. It’s an excellent record and was a transitional sign of where Radiohead headed next with Kid A.

Although I’m not the biggest Third Eye Blind fan, their debut album is an extraordinary record. It’s filled with powerful choruses, great guitar lines, and is one of the best produced and recorded albums from the 1990s.

As I’ve stated before, Modest Mouse is one of the most underrated bands from the 1990s. The Lonesome Crowded West is an exceptional album and is everything you’d expect from an early Modest Mouse record.

Similar to Third Eye Blind, I’m not the biggest Foo Fighters fan, but I did love them quite a bit during my adolescence stage. Either way, The Colour and the Shape is a distinguished record on its own.

The afflicted and precise lyrical standpoint from Elliott Smith is a musical element most musicians aren’t able to do. Either/Or is an exemplary record and is worth listening for any fan of dismal indie folk driven music.
