Music Recommendations #11
Music Recommendations is a series of blogs dedicated to recommending music I find enjoyable. These blogs will cover a wide range of music I’ve recently discovered or have enjoyed for a long time. My purpose in writing these blogs is to promote positivity and happiness pertaining to music, rather than be critical of music I don’t like. At least that’s what I hope to achieve. If you’re interested in buying or listening to any of the records, click the title of one for a direct link to Amazon.
Lately, my music listening intake has consisted of modern alternative rap and progressive rock. The two genres are quite different from one another, but that’s how my music ingestion has been as of late. Either way, let’s take a look.
Brockhampton is one of the most unique and successful rap groups since their emergence a few years ago. In 2017, the group released three full-length records titled the Saturation Series. Saturation, the first of the three records, is an excellent listen and everything to expect from Brockhampton.
Focus is known for their odd, yet interesting 1973 track Hocus Pocus. Although the group is primarily known for one song, this doesn’t take away from what they brought to the progressive rock genre. The group’s third record Focus 3 is filled with progressive rock and jazz fusion songs that’ll surely blow away any musician or fan of either genre.
Odd Future birthed the solo careers of artists like Tyler, the Creator, Frank Ocean, Earl Sweatshirt, Domo Genesis, and countless others. The alternative rap supergroup lasted from 2007 to 2015 and released one full-length album during their short career.
