Music Recommendations #2

Welcome to Music Recommendations, a series of blogs dedicated to recommending music we find enjoyable. These blogs will cover a wide range of music we’ve recently discovered or have enjoyed for a long time. Our purpose in writing these blogs is to promote positivity and happiness pertaining to music, rather than be critical of music we don’t like. At least that’s what we hope to achieve.
1. Biffy Clyro – Blackened Sky
Has your imagination escaped you? Let Scottish power trio Biffy Clyro help you find it with their 2002 debut album Blackened Sky. I cannot say enough about how incredible this album is for an early 2000s post-hardcore/post-grunge record.
Each song cycles through different characteristics that are dynamic, intense, heroic, exciting, gentle, explosive, eerie, raw, emotional, dissonant, wicked, dark, and transformative. If you’re open-minded enough for a complete trip to another world, then this album will do just that.

2. Neil Young – Songs for Judy
Live albums commonly get overlooked by people worried about the quality of the performance and the recording. Not many artists can pull off the unique and genuine performances better than Canadian rock and folk icon Neil Young. Released in 2018, Songs for Judy is a compilation of 23 songs from Young’s solo acoustic sets during the November 1976 tour with his band Crazy Horse.
There are immense amounts of heart and personality in each song that’ll give you a whirlwind of emotional questioning. From the sound of him plucking away on his guitar to his classic vocal distinction, this entire album creates a sense of nostalgia that’s unforgettable. Sit back, close your eyes, grab a nice beer, and enjoy the raw beauty of this Neil Young record.
