Music Recommendations #1

Welcome to Music Recommendations, a series of blogs dedicated to recommending music I find enjoyable. These blogs will cover a wide range of music I’ve recently discovered or have enjoyed for a long time. My purpose in writing these blogs is to promote positivity and happiness pertaining to music, rather than be critical of music I don’t like. At least that’s what I hope to achieve.
With the current state of humanity, the vast majority of us have spent an endless amount of time scrolling through streaming platforms like Netflix while listening to music in between our movie intake. Speaking for myself, I’m always searching for a new record and artist to explore. If you’re looking for a completely aimless list of records to check out, well, look no further.
- Gleemer – Anymore
The incredibly dismal and ambient sounding alternative album Anymore is a must-listen from Colorado rock outfit Gleemer. They have a number of albums since their formation in 2015, and Anymore is their latest effort since its release in 2017. If you’re a fan of shoegaze or anything in the alternative realm, Gleemer is a must-listen.

- Higher Power – 27 Miles Underwater
Higher Power’s 27 Miles Underwater is an album that makes me want to get up and start a fight with someone; despite the fact that I’ve never been in a fight before. The efficacious belching vocals and gut-wrenching guitar lines make this album a compelling and exciting listen. If you’re a fan of punk rock or anything that riffs hard, Higher Power is a great band to get into.

- Danny Brown – uknowhatimsayin¿
Danny Brown has been one of my favorite rappers for several years, and his latest record from 2019, uknowhatimsayin¿ (You know what I’m saying?), is an extraordinary listen, and I can’t recommend it enough. It has a somewhat throwback vibe to it, but not in the sense that it rips-off previous artists. Check it out and see how you dig it.

- Phoebe Bridgers – Stranger in the Alps
Phoebe Bridgers is one of those artists that can tell a brutally honest story and experience throughout a record. Stranger in the Alps is one of my favorite releases from 2017, and if you’re a fan of gut-wrenching pop jams, add this to your list.
